2. Bathrooms are part of the Private zones in a house
Make good “dividers” between private and social zones
Must include window or ventilation fan
Need linen closet or storage nearby

3. Half (1/2) Bath/Powder Room
Sink & toilet only

4. Three-quarters (¾) Bath
Sink, toilet, shower with no tub

5. Full Bath
Full bathroom: includes three plumbed fixtures - toilet, sink, shower/tub combo.

6. Full Bath Options: Master/En-Suite
Master bathroom suite/En-suite: adjoins the bedroom and has space that includes five functional pieces – dual sinks, shower stall, tub, and toilet room.

7. Full Bath Options: Jack & Jill
Bathroom with two or more entrances, usually from two bedrooms on either side of the bathroom.

8. Bathroom Sinks/ Lavatories/Wash Basins

9. Wall-Hung Sink
Open space beneath sink, can make the room appear larger

10. Pedestal Sinks
Supported by a free-standing base, often artfully shaped or appears as a sculpture

11. Inset Sinks/Vanities
Set flush into the countertop, cabinet below adds storage

12. Above the counter (Vessel)
Looks like a decorative washbowl set on a counter. Can be found on pedestal or vanity sinks

13. Toilets/Water Closets
Floor mount
Wall mount

14. Tub Showers/Enclosed bath
Bathtub with a shower head above, usually surrounded by 3 walls

17. Design tips
When working on design layout you don’t want to be able to see the toilet from the door.
Many designers are creating separate toilet or toilet and shower rooms for multi-person use of the bathroom
2 foot minimum clearance in front of toilet
2 ½ food clearance in front of bathtub/shower

18. Universal Design in Baths
Wide doorways (36”) and extra floor space (usually 60 inches turning radius for wheelchairs)
Grab bars near toilet and tub
Elevated toilet seat
Lever style sink and shower controls
No upper cabinets
Tilting mirror
No-sill, door-less shower stall with rolling or fixed chair
Lower towel bars
Easy open windows
