6 Frequently Asked Questions 1
What is the Sasol Engineer-In-Training (EIT) scheme? After graduation you may be offered a 3-year fixed-term contract to work for Sasol. During this time, you will have at least one rotation (one year) to an operating plant and at least one rotation to Group Technology. The third rotation will depend on individual needs. In your third year you have a choice of where to rotate (within available positions). During your third year you may apply for available jobs as Execution Engineer in Sasol. If you do not apply for a job, or no jobs are available to you, your contract will finish, and you will have no further obligation to Sasol. Six-monthly evaluation panels will follow your progress. People with post-graduate qualifications may rotate to Research and Technology in their second year. People with post-graduate qualifications may apply to shorten the program to two years and then be able to apply for a permanent position, if their studies add to the required experience of the position that they are applying for. After the 3-year programme, you should be able to register as a professional engineer with ECSA, if you applied yourself to all the requirements within your work. If you have a post-graduate qualification, and become employed after two years, ECSA will only recognise your studies as relevant time if it added to the required engineering competencies, otherwise you will have to work another year to qualify.

7 Frequently asked questions 2
Does my topic have to fall within those of the Sasol Research Grants? No, not necessarily for a Sasol bursary. If a bursary originates from within a Sasol Research Grant (i.e. from your study leader), then the topic has to be relevant to the research grant. Can I change my topic later? Yes, but please do discuss it with us. We would like you to obtain valuable experience during your studies. If I accept the bursary, may I change my mind later? You may change your mind before you sign the contract. After you have signed the contract, its cancellation clauses will be applicable. However, do talk to us before you change your mind: make sure you have the right information. If I accept the bursary, may I accept other bursaries? Yes, as long as it does not conflict with the requirements of the Sasol bursary, in particular the work obligations. NRF bursaries may for example be accepted. How many bursaries are available? Depending on the quality of the applications, up to ten bursaries may be available for chemical engineering, split between M and PhD. Our strong diversity drive is also reflected in how we award bursaries.
