Psalm 107:22 Let them also offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, And tell of His works with joyful singing. Hymns Invitation Red Songbook - Supplemental

Where is God? Psalms – we are studying the Psalms because: 1. We are commanded to sing them; 2. We are commanded to bring them to each other (1 Cor. 14:26); 3. They teach us about the Kingdom (Acts 13:33) Psalm 10
4
Adversaries If David wrote this he had many adversaries - A king rejected by God - Gentiles who wanted his life - A rebellious son All of them might be described as wicked men
5
Adversaries Characteristic of the wicked - They act in pride, boastful and haughty - They are greedy - They do not seek God and do not believe - Their mouth is full of curses, lies and hate - But their ways prosper!
6
Where is God? The wicked seem to prosper The righteous only suffer Why is this the case if: 1. God is all powerful 2. God is on the side of the righteous
7
Where is God? We all ask “where is God” from time to time - Multiple Psalms ask “where is God” - Job asked for God’s just - John the Baptist doubted Jesus’ identity Never does God become angry with doubt - But Jesus was sometimes frustrated by it - Even Jesus “seems” to have done so when He quoted Psalm 22 on the cross

There is God! The Psalmist returns to what he knows 1. God does not forget the afflicted He tests the righteous to perfection James 1:2-4 1 Peter 1:6-7 Jas 1:2 ¶ Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. 1Pe 1:6 ¶ In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, 7 so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

There is God! The Psalmist returns to what he knows 1. God does not forget the afflicted He tests the righteous to perfection He does not permit them to be overcome 1 Corinthians 10:13 2 Peter 2:9 1Co 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. 2Pe 2:9 then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment,

There is God! The Psalmist returns to what he knows 1. God does not forget the afflicted He tests the righteous to perfection He does not permit them to be overcome God has proven time and again faithfulness Psalm 34:19 2 Thessalonians 3:3 Ps 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all. 2Th 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.

There is God! The Psalmist returns to what he knows 1. God does not forget the afflicted 2. God does not forget the wicked He is patience with them 2 Peter 3:3-9 2Pe 3:3 ¶ Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, 4 and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation." 5 For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, 6 through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water. 7 But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. 8 ¶ But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. 9 ¶ The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

There is God! The Psalmist returns to what he knows 1. God does not forget the afflicted 2. God does not forget the wicked He is patience with them He loves the wicked too Romans 5:6-8 Ro 5:6 ¶ For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

There is God! The Psalmist returns to what he knows 1. God does not forget the afflicted 2. God does not forget the wicked He is patience with them He loves the wicked too All would be lost without divine patience Romans 3:23 Ro 3:22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
