1 Bell ringer - Phospholipids
Hand in Lipids WS for marking

2 Bell ringer pt. 2 Name the monomer that makes up proteins
Draw the structural formula of the simplest version of this monomer. How does it’s structure differ from other versions of the monomer found in proteins?

3 Lesson objectives describe the structure of an amino acid and the formation and breakage of a peptide bond explain the meaning of the terms primary structure, secondary structure, tertiary structure and quaternary structure of proteins and describe the types of bonding (hydrogen, ionic, disulfide and hydrophobic interactions) that hold these molecules in shape describe the molecular structure of hemoglobin as an example of a globular protein, and of collagen as an example of a fibrous protein and relate these structures to their functions (The importance of iron in the hemoglobin molecule should be emphasized. A hemoglobin molecule is composed of two alpha (α) chains and two beta (β) chains, although when describing the chains the terms α-globin and β-globin may be used. There should be a distinction between collagen molecules and collagen fibers)

4

5 Protein structure In pairs use the rubric to complete a poster explaining the structure and function of proteins

6 Complete Protein WS Show what you have learnt today by completing the WS on proteins Test your knowledge by answering as many questions as possible BEFORE you use a book for help.

7 HW Review Carbohydrates, Lipids, Proteins
