Strivings Why are you striving? What are your motives?
What are you striving for? Who are you trying to impress by your striving? What strivings do you avoid or dislike? What are your motives? What are you seeking to do on a regular basis? What causes you to persevere or keep going? What effortful attempts have you made to attain a goal? Which striving are you reluctant to strive for?
3
Four Kinds of Strivings
Extrinsic – external motivation and rewards; others want you to do it or think you should do it Introjected – feeling like you should strive for this and you would feel bad, worried, or shamed if you didn’t Identified – you feel this is an important goal; you may have learned it from others, but now you embrace it Intrinsic – have a genuine interest and enjoy the task; mostly do it for the experience itself (even though there may be other good reasons too)
