Tuesday, March 12th, 2019 Aim: How can we differentiate arguments on the existence of the American Dream? Objective:: Students will be able to read two opposing arguments about the existence of the American Dream. Agenda A.) Do Now: Turn and talk with your tablemates. Captains will prepare to share their tablemates’ answers with the whole class. B.) Discuss/Share: -Captains will share Do Now answers. C.) Work Period: Is the American Dream still alive or is it dead? Read Fox News article “Why I Believe the American Dream is Still Alive” by David Sokol (6/23/14) and The Daily Beast article “The American Dream is Dead and Good Riddance” by Keli Goff. Cite three pieces of textual evidence (one-two sentences each) in each article to support why the American Dream is alive or dead. Interpret each quote in your own words. Sentence starters include the following: : This evidence proves that..., Readers may infer that..., or The evidence can be analyzed to mean that... D.) Reflections: Which article was more persuasive/convincing and why? Why is the debate whether the American Dream is still alive such a hot topic?
