3 SIP Targets Key Development Areas (taken from the SIP):
To accelerate reading progress across the school. To provide greater challenge for more able pupils. To raise attainment of disadvantaged boys particularly in reading and writing. To develop a consistent approach to behaviour which allows all pupils to progress.

4 Phonics Year 1 Phonics Screening 2018: 72% Increase from 2017 – 41%
Prediction for 2019: 80% What changed? New teacher (Emily Owen) who has a passion and deeper understanding for phonics. Spends time developing resources and an engaging curriculum. 1-1 pedagogical mentoring from Teach First – phonics specialist. After school phonics clubs for identified close-to children. Increased phonics sessions during the day. Learning environment flooded with phonics (eg. sound buttons for displays / labels)

5 Phonics Current practice
New phonics structure based on HIAS model and recommendations. All children have already been exposed to phase 5 sounds (expectation of end of year for year 1). Phonics coaching support from Laura (AHT). Interventions / boosters – after school session. Year 2 (9 chn) retakes are joining year 1 for repeated exposure to phases. Remaining year 2 are being taught phase 6 / No Nonsense Spelling. Laura is attending the Hampshire Phonics Project. What next? Bench marking mock screening test to take place before Christmas. Parent workshop to run earlier in the year (January / February). Laura to lead phonic staff meeting and audit.

8 Reading Reviewed and rewrote the English overviews to include quality and a range of texts. INSET day in October to launch new whole class reading (HIAS led) Reading clinics with Emma S (HIAS) – planning and discussion opportunities about reading Learning walks by Emma S to identify strengths and developments. Book Banded books have been purchased to support phonics development. Teaching staff went to the library (SLS) to select books for book corner and curriculum. What is currently happening? Daily whole class reading sessions. Reading opportunities identified across the curriculum. ERIC – daily Dinner ladies reading with PP daily.

9 Reading Future actions
From learning walk, identified teachers to have bespoke coaching support. Going to purchase phonics books: Key Stage 2 (Project X). graphic novels comics Continued support from HIAS Laura to do training with dinner ladies. Emma W to continue to develop the roles of Reading Champions

10 Writing What is currently happening?
Following the Hampshire learning journey. Lots of writing opportunities across the curriculum. Making writing have a clear purpose. Unique experiences. Early writing provision for EY and KS1. Developing vocabulary Cluster moderation (KS1) Internal writing moderation Pen Licenses Themed days: Remembrance Day, National Poetry Day

11 Writing Future actions
To continue to embed grammar into learning journey. To continue to develop vocabulary (focussing on Tier 2). Whole School big writes (eg. Christmas jumper day). Writing about the unique experiences and trips. Having a stronger link between reading and writing.

Emma W (AHT) attended the ‘Gender Gap’ – trialled a range of activities to engage and develop thinking. Kirsty starting NPQSL (National Professional Qualification Senior Leadership) – whole school project
