Building a CMMI Data Infrastructure
February 6-7, 2017 Opportunities: The SEAD DataNet project ( has developed data services for ‘self-service’ curation and publication of datasets (with ‘any’ metadata and file types, up to 100K+ files and <= 1 TB per dataset) that has been used by 20+ groups over several years. The data from some of those groups, as well as the SEAD services and their design, and the lessons-learned from the project may be relevant to CMMI. Name: Jim Myers Title: Associate Research Scientist Institution: University of Michigan Research, Development, and Deployment Interests: Cyberinfrastructure, Data Services Challenges: Architecting as Infrastructure – when technologies, metadata, research, expectations – all evolve on timescales much shorter than data retention periods What is the cost/value of standardizing at the CMMI level (versus larger or smaller)? How can aspirations and needs be addressed cost-effectively and over the long-term? Goals: I’d like to learn how the thinking on, and the current state of, data services in CMMI has evolved. I’d like to see what I can do to help maximize the value of data services for CMMI research.
