1 Detailed Design Review (Phase 4)
P18044 – Tremor Mitigation 2 Detailed Design Review (Phase 4)

2 Agenda Overview of tasks this phase Updated risks
Control logic test rig Design updates Magnet and brake testing and outcomes Revised Fritzing diagram, battery draw calculations Updated control logic Updated BOM and test plans Goals and plans for rest of semester, beginning of MSD II Vision for Imagine RIT

3 Phase 4 Summary / Goals Increase detail in device design and CAD model. Performed experiments with electromagnetic brake set up from last year. Created a test rig so that control logic can be tested at the beginning of MSD II. Made a hand component prototype. Discovered new risks for our current design that need to be addressed. Ordered critical build materials. Planning for MSD II

4 Updates to Risk Analysis

9

10 Mackie Elbow Brace – Ortho Innovations

11 Hand Mock-up

12 Electromagnet – Temperature test

13 Temperature Test - Outcomes
Determined that brake housings will provide enough surface area to safely dissipate heat Is not direct skin exposure to brake housing Repeat test when circuit is optimized, switching magnet on and off at ET frequency

14 Electromagnetic brake – Slip force test
Theoretical Value Slip force: 25 N Experimental Value Slip force: ±1.78 N

15 Slip force test – Outcomes
Experimental value was 56.4% percent of theoretical value. Magnets can be doubled up per brake line (Feasibility  High) Frictional coefficient of brake material can be increased. (Feasibility  Moderate) Thickness of air gap can be decreased. (Feasibility  Low). Current feeding magnets can be increased. (Feasibility  Moderate).

16 Updates to Fritzing Diagram

17 Changes in draw calculations with more magnets
One electromagnet V = 8.8V R = 40Ω I = 8.8/4 = .22A P = 1.936W Five electromagnets I = 1.1A P = 9.68W ADD BATTERY LIFE TO THIS SLIDE

18 Control logic – coding update

19 Updates to Test Plans

20 Updates to BOM

21 Goals for rest of semester
Prepare for and complete gate review. Remain in contact with our new EE, make sure he will be up to speed before semester begins. Order remaining long lead items Finalize project plan, build and assembly plan, and meeting schedule Address outcomes of this review

22 Goals for first phase of MSD II
Completed project plan for all of MSD II Implemented problem tracking Completed build and assemble plan All of remaining purchases have been made Brace has arrived Test plan is finalized, test bench is set up.

23 Vision for Imagine RIT Best case:
Device working and robust enough to be worn by public Video of tremoring patient with and without device side by side, perhaps with displacement tracking Our poster and project overview are available. Be situated near the other tremor teams.
