2. Kirkjubøur is a small town in the Faroe Islands
Kirkjubøur is a small town in the Faroe Islands. It is located on the western coast of Streymoy Island and is the southernmost population of it. In 2012 it has 74 inhabitants.
During the Middle Ages it was the episcopal seat of the Faroes and is currently the most important historical site of the archipelago.
Politically, Kirkjubøur and Velbastaður constituted the municipality of Kirkjubøur until 2005, year in which both localities were integrated to the municipality of Tórshavn.
