Ethical standards are normally developed by professional associations to guide the behavior of a specific group of professionals. „Ethical standards help to: „
Educate members about sound ethical conduct
„Provide a mechanism of accountability „
Improve professional practice

3. Important Codes Of Ethics
Welfare of clients: Counsellors main concern is client growth and development in ways that foster the interest and welfare of clients.
Informed Consent: Clients have complete freedom to choose whether to remain in a counselling relationship and go for any psychological test. Adequate information about the counselling process is to be given to the patient.

4. Confidentiality: Clients have the right to confidentiality and no information can be revealed to other person without patients consent. Any limitation in confidentiality is to be revealed to the patient.
Non professional interactions: the relation between counsellor and client should be purely professional and every Non-professional relationships between counsellors and present and former clients should be avoided.

5. Respecting client rights: Trust is a cornerstone of any counselling relationship. Respect for the client’s rights to privacy and confidentiality is to be maintained.
Professional competence: Counsellors must practice only within the boundaries of their competence. Any issue beyond his competence must be referred to proper professional
