PRESENTS ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT AND INDUSTRIAL GROWTH IN TIRUPUR DYERS ASSOCIATION OF TIRUPUR ( DAT ) - Presents ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT AND INDUSTRIAL GROWTH IN TIRUPUR

3 DYERS ASSOCIATION OF TIRUPUR
INTRODUCTION In the year 1985, Tirupur Dyers Association was formed and subsequently the name was changed as Dyers Association of Tirupur. It is a Society formed for the welfare of the dyeing units. It was registered under Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975. 500 dyeing units are members of DAT at present.

4 Formation of common effluent treatment plant ( CETP)
Due to growth of knitwear exports, number of small dye houses and bleaching units increased to 752. Noyyal river and water bodies got polluted by the effluents discharged by the dyeing units. In order to protect the river and water bodies from pollution, 288 dyeing and bleaching units formed eight CETPs initially in the year 1998. 464 dyeing and bleaching units formed independent ETPs(IETPs). Subsequently another 12 CETPs were formed in the year 2006. Central and State Governments sanctioned financial assistance for establishment of CETPs.

5 Implication on environment
Due to increased discharge of dyeing effluent into river Noyyal, ground water in and around Tirupur and nearby areas of Orathupalayam Dam was affected severely. Hon’ble High Court of Madras ordered closure of all dyeing units on with the direction to State Pollution Control Board for allowing them to reopen after implementation of Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system for effluent treatment. With the financial support of Central and State Governments, ZLD system was implemented in 18 CETPs.

6 Impacts of zld system on environment
Unique ZLD system in textiles sector standing first in the Globe implemented in all CETPs. 10 Cr litre of water recycled daily preserving natural precious water. River Noyyal and other water bodies protected from pollution. Agricultural activities are revived and saved from pollution. Depletion of underground water level prevented.

7 Impacts of cetp and zld system on industry
Establishment of CETP is helping business activities of dyeing units – Small and Medium Enterprises(SMEs). Investment in land for establishing CETP individually is saved. Operational cost is minimized. Cost of water used for treatment of effluent to the tune of Rs.300 Cr is saved per year. Energy and manpower are saved. Eco friendly production methods are helping the export community to get Green Tag Label for their products. Growth of illegal dyers is prevented.

8 Financial support of Central and state governments
To support the establishment of 8 CETPs at Tirupur Central and State Governments sanctioned subsidy Rs.6.72Crore each in 1998. For implementation of ZLD system, One Time Central assistance of Rs.200 Cr sanctioned by Central Government in 2010. Government of Tamilnadu also sanctioned Rs.100 Cr for the same purpose. To upgrade the ZLD system, interest free long term loan of Rs.200 Cr was sanctioned by Government of Tamilnadu in 2011.

9 Dyers Association of Tirupur
Vision: ‘0’ Liquid ‘0’ Cost. Mission: 50% of operational cost is recovered by recycling of water and recovery of salt for reuse . Remaining 50% cost shall be saved by implementing renewable energy projects like Solar & Wind Power

10 Benefits of ZLD If ZLD implemented through out INDIA 1,55,000 Acres of Land Can be irrigated We are preserving Drinking Water equivalent to 2 Crore People On Daily basis Literally – Every Day We are Creating 10 crore liters of Rain water by using our ZLD’s Process By implementing renewable energy projects like Solar & Wind Power 茁壮 7/7/2019

11 Our Proud Contribution to Nature
During 1990’s even though we took part in India’s Major Economical growth via garments Exports, We are Blamed as Top Polluters by our Local farmers and Supreme Court of India. With Our ZLD’S Now we are the TOP MOST BIO DIVERSITY BALANCING & RETAINING FORCE in INDIA among Any other Associations As a Responsible Business Management Organization, We Take resources from nature and Give Back More.
