12 Fatalities due to OLD: 2016 AMRs

13 Challenges Late, inconsistent and non-submission of AMRs, in particular. Cases reported on HIRs and AMRs for the same calendar year do not tally. OMPs generally do not provide a brief elaboration on occupational disease trends as required. Cases reported generally as pneumoconiosis and not specified. Non-submission of diagnosed PTB cases, some OMPs citing the DoH guidelines for non-submission at the time of diagnosis. Majority of TB cases reported as non-occupational diseases not reported on the DMR 164 form. Medical incapacity…majority of employees reported on the grounds of temporary incapacity.

14 Conclusion Medical surveillance of employees exposed to chromium and manganese on a mine should also include a Questionnaire for Biological Effect Monitoring. The issue of linkage with hygiene measurement results is critical Investigation and reporting on health incident reports (DMR 231 form) an annual medical reports (DMR 165 form). Occupational health issues to be prioritised, e.g. OHS training, RTFs, green area talks, one-on-one during medical surveillance, etc
