Students are also learning that readers are always asking themselves if what they are reading look right, sounds right, and makes sense. If not, super readers work hard to fix their reading with their super powers. We call this persistence power! We have started our opinion writing unit. The students will be writing their opinion about something and telling reasons why they have that opinion. Please be practicing this at home. Math We will be finishing up our geometry Unit 5 in math this week. Students have learned about 2-D and 3-D shapes. In Unit 6, students will be developing ideas about counting and quantity, comparison, linear measurement, the composition of numbers and the operations of addition and subtraction. Science We will be starting our force and motion unit. Weekly Words OUR SCHOOL DAY Kids can enter the room at 7:35. Students are dismissed at 2:45. PLEASE wait outside for your child.

April News Reminders Weekly Letters & Words Other Information
Please remember to work with your child at home on letter sounds. Please also work on segmenting words. Segmenting is when students will stretch out the sounds of a word and then blend them together. For example: c/a/t – cat. Please also be working with your child on the 50 kindergarten sight words that we send home with homework. We hope to see you at conferences in a couple of weeks. We are hoping to get 100% attendance. If the time scheduled does not work, please let your child’s teacher know so they can reschedule. Thank you! Our main focus for the rest of the school year is sight words. Students will be tested on this at the end of the year. Other things they will be tested on is segmenting, letter sounds and nonsense words. We will be finishing up the DRA 2 reading test which indicates which level your child is reading at. This information will be shared during conferences. Reminders Homework folders are sent home on Monday and due back on Thursday. Please make sure students are doing their OWN homework. Students need to make sure their name is written on each page of their homework. Please make sure homework is done in pencil unless otherwise asked to color. Our dress code only allows solid color jackets if they will be worn inside. As it is getting colder, please make sure your child brings a jacket to school. It is very important that you inform the school/teacher if your child’s normal transportation has changed for the day. Please don’t wait till the end of the day to inform us of changes. When you are picking up your child at the end of the day please stay outside of the doors, as it can cause congestion for classes trying to get outside. Please continue to collect Hy-Vee receipts. Please ask family members and your church to save them for your child. Have your child give receipts to their teacher. Please save box tops also. Feel free to call or us at any time if you have any questions or concerns. Our work hours are from 7:30 until 3:00. The school phone number is Thank you for all of your support!
