1 OBJECTIVES: Define recovery and explain how it fits within the other provisions of the Act. Describe the historical development of recovery. Compare and contrast the recovery workload responsibilities for different regions.

2 DEFINITION OF RECOVERY
The process by which the decline of an endangered or threatened species is arrested or reversed, and the threats to its survival are neutralized, so that its long term survival in nature can be ensured.

3 THE GOAL OF RECOVERY The goal of the recovery program is to restore listed species to a point where they are secure, self-sustaining components of their ecosystem so as to allow delisting.

4 OBJECTIVES OF THE RECOVERY PROGRAM
Identify those ecosystems and organisms facing the highest degree of threat. Determine tasks necessary to reduce or eliminate threats. Apply resources to the highest priority recovery tasks. Reclassify and/or delist species.

9 Your perspective is based on 3 factors…
STATUS OF RECOVERY Your perspective is based on 3 factors… SPECIES MONEY PERSONNEL

10 WORKLOAD-BASED FUNDING
Species per lead region are weighted… Plant, insect, crustacean, snail = 1 Vertebrate or bivalve = 2 Occurs in only one state or territory = 1 Occurs in more than one state, territory or country = 2

11 WORKLOAD-BASED FUNDING
Planning dollars are allocated as follows… 100% for species listed in the last 3 FYs 50% for species listed in the 4th FY 0% for species listed 5 FYs or earlier Implementation dollars are allocated based on the number of listed species for which a region has the lead.
