Lesson Topic(s):Money Week of:4/22-4/26 Objectives: Students will identify pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters TEKS: Students is expected to identify U.S. coins by name, including pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. Essential Question: Why is it important to understand the value of coins? Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Lesson Plan Whole group review coins. Students then show me the coin I call out using plastic coins. Compete coin sort in journals with partners. Review money hold up and coin and have student tell you what it is. Partners complete coin sort activity. Whole group review coins. Students then show me the coin I call out using plastic coins. Partners play grab and graph with coins. Play money review games. 4 corners, All the ____ go to the carpet, coin musical spots. Students will play Math Stations with their partners. Vocabulary coin value money penny nickel dime quarter Higher order questions/ELLs Discuss with your partner what a penny is and how much it is worth. How would you orally demonstrate how to count nickles? Write using vocabulary words: value and money. Explain what the problem is with this statement? Four dimes is worth 20 cents. Use formal/informal English to discuss what your favorite coin is. Assessment Strategy Students will participate in coin identification activities with their partners.
