3 An earthquake is a shaking of the ground caused by the sudden breaking and movement of large sections of the earth's rocky outermost crust.

13 Primary (caused directly by the Earthquake) Secondary (result from primary effects) 316,00 people were killed, 1 million homless & 3 million affected. Hospitals and morgues because full due to the large number of deaths. 250,00 homes, 30,000 buildings and 60% of govern. Buildings were destroyed or badly damaged. 1 in 5 persons lost their jobs due to destruction of buildings. 50+ hospitals and 1,300+ schools were badly damaged, along side the airports control tower. Issues at the airport made it difficult to get aid into the area. Transport and communication links were damaged. Due to the pile of bodies, diseases became a serious problem. The main prison was destroyed releasing 4,000 inmates from imprisonment. People were squashed into shanty towns or on the streets since their homes had been destroyed.
