Our Father “There is no evidence of anyone before Jesus using this term (Father) to address God.” (D. A. Carson) “The address part of prayer is one of the things that distinguishes prayer from worrying our loud or silently, which many, unfortunately, have confused with prayer.” (Dallas Willard) 6/9/2019

Matthew 6:5-15

Matthew 6:8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.
Matthew 6:9 Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.

Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.
Matthew 6:9 Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.

Romans 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”

Galatians 4:4-7 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Ephesians 1:5 …He predestined us for adoption to Himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will,…

Romans 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

1 John 3:1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.

2 Corinthians 6:17-18 Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a Father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”

Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.
Matthew 6:9 Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.

Luke 15:11-32 The Prodigal

Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.
Matthew 6:9 Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.

2 Corinthians 12:2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows.

Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.
Matthew 6:9 Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.

John 12:28 Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”

Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

John 20:31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.

Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Jesus Said… John 14:13 Whatever you ask in My name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:14 If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

Jesus Said… In that day you will ask nothing of Me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in My name, He will give it to you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

For Our Consideration What is your relationship like with your Heavenly Father? What does being a new creation and child of God mean in your daily life? What does keeping God’s name holy mean to you? What does asking in the Name of Jesus mean in prayer?

Prayer Focus Thank You Father for adopting us as Your sons and daughters. Thank You for the privilege and closeness that results from You being our Daddy. Thank You for salvation and for the grace to walk with You every day.
