1 Cases 1.1 & 1.2

2 Case 1.1 -- The Job Interview
Tom’s real interest in the job is purely instrumental – he will make a lot of money. There appear to be some “magical motivations” that will get the job for Tom if he can only figure them out and articulate them. Tom mouths the right words, but then is told to write an autobiography that will reveal exactly who he is and, therefore, how he will fit the company. Faced with creating a false persona that will get the job or telling truths that will leave him both feeling exposed and unemployed, he reveals his true self by writing something else.

3 How much is too much for a company to want to know about you?
Your work experience? Abilities and capabilities relevant to your work? Your degree of commitment to producing quality work? Your true inner feelings about the value of the work, either to you personally or to the world generally? Where, if anywhere, did Walker cross the line?

4 Case 1.2 -- Less Heat, More Light
Monomaniacal, workaholic full-time employees are less valuable than balanced part-timers. US employees work more hours and are less productive than those on other Western economies. Recent news story: The typical US employee spends 3 hours a day goofing off. Monomaniacs are just that, maniacs, and are prone to crazed decisions and whacked-out priorities
