2. New R.A.C.E.S. members, WELCOME!
What are we? – We are an auxiliary communications function.
We are mostly self trained. We likely have an adjacent career. We may also have training by emergency management agencies (BCOEM, NJOEM, FEMA and etc.)
BC-RACES only gets deployed by BCOEM (Sgt. Matt Tiedemann).
We always follow “chain of command” (John Nashmy).
What are we not? – We are not a radio club.
We do not self deploy.
We do not expect recognition.
When we get deployed, we expect to show professionalism and deliver results as requested.

Auxiliary Emergency Communications (AEC / AUXCOM)
…as per U.S. Department of Homeland Security
EMCOM and AUXCOM was created by DHS using the Office of Emergency Communications (OEC) through the Interoperable Communications Technical Assistance Program (ICTAP).
New Jersey Office of Emergency Management will schedule classes.
BCOEM will let us know when new classes are offered.
John Garmendi (Middlesex County OEM) is our local DHS/FEMA certified AUXCOM instructor.

6. Your RACES Identification
BC-RACES maintains a database that recognizes you as an active member.
According to your profile, your abilities are an asset.
According to your profile, your equipment is a resource.
We get activated by BCOEM.
When activated, we report to Radio Officer, John Nashmy.
We must keep our profiles updated to reflect our current status.

7. Structure From Municipal to FEMA From FEMA down Within R.A.C.E.S.
Always follow structure.
Always dress appropriately.
Always maintain a professional disposition.

9. Protocol Refresher
Please re-read INTRODUCTION TO BC-RACES in our members section of our site.
Net order: Introduction - Attendance - Net Business - Closing
When called upon, identify yourself by: Municipal call sign, Personal call sign or Liaison call sign – no need to state location. We know where you are by the sign you use.
State traffic: “No Traffic”, “Routine Traffic” or “Priority Traffic”.
Verbiage always starts with “This is”, conjuncts “with” and ends with “over”.

Moves 790 to backup
Moves 535 Simplex to local use
Each municipality maintains their own ICS-205.
Municipal OEM Coordinators may maintain their own list of RACES members
…may maintain their own (RACES) repeaters.
…or may not even care about (RACES) backup communications at all.

11. BC-RACES Projects and Events
Field day 2019 – June 22nd through 23rd
Needs volunteers for commitment.
3 Hour operational period (minimum) – stay longer to help peers.
2Foxtrot – 2 stations with 6 timeslots each.
Trailer Work – What we want to achieve
A Bergen County Amateur Radio Auxiliary Communications Apparatus
Communications assistance to MRC, CERT, CART and etc.
