Conclusions Ag choice has become too simplified, for farmers and consumers. Ag subsidies favor only the largest farms and crops. Butler County has a rich heritage of agriculture and has possibility for change. Farms need wider choice of crops, supported by government and business. Processors will help change agriculture and add jobs. Ag educators need to add crops and value adding to their options. Government needs to add food education for consumers and work to add food processors to increase employment and economic independence. Butler County has the land and infrastructure to change their agriculture. Agriculture and food is an asset to a county for economic benefits. County educators need to add ag and food related training and degrees. Together, consumers, farmers, food businesses, educators and elected officials can create new options and new business and move our county forward.
