CDS-EL IRR - J.G. Weisend II
General Comments Please keep in mind that May 1 is a holiday at ESS and the rigging team is not available but transport work can be done if the KrioSystem team has previously demonstrated with the rigging group that they can carry out this work safely. A detailed installation plan was presented and in general looks reasonable. It has been coordinated by ESS with other tunnel activites. It does need to be adjusted to alllow start of cold commissioning in early December. KrioSystem should connect the line to the cryoplant at the very end of installation. It is very likely that we will want to then disconnect and later reconnect this line from the ACCP. The capability to weld and reweld this connection should be maintained. There is a possible space conflict with the movement of the CTL pieces and the Klystron assembly area and its workshop. This needs to be checked. A detailed Quality Inspection plan has been developed and is consistent with work done earlier on the Test Stand CDS. No significant technical or safety issues were identified. Answers to Charge Questions
Have all the CDS-EL project activities related to preparation to the installation phase been documented sufficiently and presented in an appropriate way to enable review at this IRR? Yes 2. Do all the modifications, which were introduced to the CDS-EL design after the CDR meet the system requirements and specifications? Yes but additional designs need to be completed for the auxiliary pipes. March 2019 CDS-EL IRR - J.G. Weisend II

Answers to Charge Questions
3. Have all the recommendations from the CDS-EL CDR and TRR1 been addressed? Yes, but the issue of the HV60 valve should be verified. 4. Will the CDS-EL fit into its allocated space and can be transported there through the given transport paths and pass by other system components? Mostly yes, additional rotation locks are required on some of the trolley wheels and the issue of space coordination in the klystron assembly area needs to be addressed. 5. Have the plan and all required instructions for the CDS-EL installation been sufficiently developed? Yes except the lifting and handling instructions still need to be submitted to ESS. Answers to Charge Questions
6. Have sufficient workforces been allocated for the CDS-EL installation activities? The work force is consistent with the schedule. Appropriate numbers of ESS staff – alignment, vacuum, area coordinators have been identified. The summer intervals are covered as well. 7. Are all the applicable ESS site safety training requirements met? Yes, KrioSystem has worked on site before and are scheduling their people for all needed safety training. ESS needs to keep KrioSystem informed on the ID06 cards. 8. Have all installation and transport devices and tools been defined? Yes and these have been discussed with the ESS rigging group. The final lifting and handling instructions still need to be submitted to ESS. March 2019 CDS-EL IRR - J.G. Weisend II

9. Have all or a sufficient amount of required quality assurance and quality control activities been planned? Yes. Based on the existing verification plan, we believe that there is no need for an additional TRR 10. Have all the required procedures for tests to be carried out during the installation of the CDS-EL components and assemblies been prepared and documented? Yes 11. Is the Partner contractor’s personnel ready for testing the CDS-EL assemblies during the installation phases? March 2019 CDS-EL IRR - J.G. Weisend II

12 Have safety issues and technical risks been identified and eliminated or otherwise mitigated? Yes, but the existing documentation needs to be put into the new RAMs format. 13. Does the work unit team require additional input from ESS or its other partners, or seek additional review, decision or approval from ESS to proceed with all work planned? The final agreement on the support approach of the auxiliary lines needs to be made. 14. Are there any outstanding agreements to be made or other actions necessary to allow the work unit to achieve the Plan? No March 2019 CDS-EL IRR - J.G. Weisend II

Recommendations Adjust schedule to have the beginning of the cold commissioning of the line on December 9. Support the auxilary process lines on the Hilti rails. Finish the design so that progress can be made. ESS will work with the CDS and klystron groups to make sure sufficient space in the klystron assembly area to move the CTL pieces into the tunnel. Prealign supports in the tunnel prior to the installation of the valve box assemblies. This will be done by ESS alignment team. Add longitudinal supports to connect the tunnel installation cranes together. Add rotational locks to a portion of the wheels in the transport trolleys to ease the transport in the tunnel. Confirm that the new plan for making and testing the welds in the interconnects has been reviewed and approved by the ESS welding QA/QC expert. Alter the new proposed sleeves to allow visual inspection of the welds after pressure test. Transfer the risk report into the new RAMS format. This is mostly just a copy and paste activity. Write a short document describing needs for equipment storage space. Finalize the interface between WUST and IPNO auxilary line March 2019 CDS-EL IRR - J.G. Weisend II

Recommendations Fiducialization data shall be sent at least one week prior to installation of a valve box. Ensure that deliveries are coordinated with the logistics team. Choose an appropriate NDT for the new process pipe interconnections. Add a lock on HV60 to prevent operation when shield circuit is pressurized. An additional safety valve at each valve box might be needed. Also add (ESS) a local pressure gauge so that operators can determine the pressure present before operating the valve.
