We’re a species that is capable of almost dumbfounding kindness
We’re a species that is capable of almost dumbfounding kindness. We nurse one another, romance one another, weep for one another. Ever since science taught us how, we willingly tear the very organs from our bodies and give them to one another.

And at the same time, we slaughter one another
And at the same time, we slaughter one another. We’ve visited untold horrors on ourselves: in Mosul, Rwanda, Darfur, New York, Oklahoma City, a church in Charleston, a synagogue in Pittsburg. That we’re also the lowest, cruelest, most blood-drenched species is our shame and our paradox.

Amos 1v3 – This is what the LORD says: “For three sins of Damascus, even for four, I will not relent.”

Amos 1v3 – This is what the LORD says: “For three sins of Damascus, even for four, I will not relent.” Amos 1v6 – This is what the LORD says: “For three sins of Gaza, even for four, I will not relent.”

Amos 1v3 – This is what the LORD says: “For three sins of Damascus, even for four, I will not relent.” Amos 1v6 – This is what the LORD says: “For three sins of Gaza, even for four, I will not relent.” Amos 1v9 – This is what the LORD says: “For three sins of Tyre, even for four, I will not relent.”

Good and Evil There is good and evil in this world, and we don’t define it – God does

Article: “The Roots of Good and Evil”
Along with our legal system, cultural norms also discourage cheating, stealing, lying and other acts we consider wrong or evil. And like us, these norms are constantly evolving…The rules your group sets up as okay or not okay set the boundaries of what is good and evil, and these are always changing.

Good and Evil There is good and evil in this world, and we don’t define it – God does Romans 12:9 – “Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.”

Good and Evil There is good and evil in this world, and we don’t define it – God does Romans 12:9 – “Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.” Isaiah 5:20 – “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness…”

The better we know God, the better we will know what’s good.

Good and Evil There is good and evil in this world, and we don’t define it – God does Addressing sin: less time looking out, more time looking in

Faith in Jesus teaches me to look in and to look out – to look in at what’s wrong with me and to look out to serve others. This goes against my typical proclivity to look out at what’s wrong with others and to look in to serve myself.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn The line between good and evil is not a line that separates us from them. It is a line that runs down the center of each of us.

Proverbs 28: Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

Proverbs 28:13 Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. Psalm 38:18 I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin.

Galatians 5:16-17 Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. The sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other.

Dallas Willard It is the responsibility of every Christian to carve out a soul-satisfying life under the loving rule of God so that sin will not look so good.

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life
An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight between two great wolves.

“One wolf is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, guilt, resentment, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego. “The other wolf is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, generosity, truth, compassion, patience, and faith.

“The same fight is going on inside of you – and inside of every other person, too.”

“The same fight is going on inside of you – and inside of every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about this for a moment, and with a look of concern asked his grandpa, “Which wolf will win?”

The old chief simply replied, “Whichever one you feed.”
