1 CREDO 0verview & workshop objectives
Peter Horby What do we bring to the table?

2 What? Why? How? Who?

3 What is CREDO? A training curriculum
That aims to strengthen capacity of research teams in low and middle income countries to generate clinical evidence during outbreaks Coordinated by the WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) and the International Severe Acute Respiratory and Emerging Infection Consortium (ISARIC) Theory and task based competencies

4 Overall learning objectives
To be able to: Describe the steps in the planning and implementation of a clinical research study Explain how an outbreak setting might influence the approach to these steps Rapidly develop a research plan for an observational study or a clinical trial for a disease of epidemic potential

5 Why was CREDO developed?
Clinical research can often only be conducted during an outbreak

6 Origins The idea of a ‘Training Curriculum’ approach to guiding decisions about epidemic research was recommended by a group of experts attending the meeting ‘Generating Evidence for Infectious Diseases with Epidemic Potential’ [20 October 2015].

9 How will CREDO be delivered?
Blended learning: face-to-face workshops and self- directed web-based learning Begin with a two day face-to-face workshop Ten web-based modules Each module will take approximately four hours to complete and will incorporate tools for assessment and feedback Conclude with a second two day face-to-face workshop during which the online training will be reinforced and built upon A final educational simulation exercise (i.e. outbreak scenario) will enable participants to put their learning into practice

10 Target audience Multidisciplinary research teams (clinicians, nurses, data and study managers) in LMICs that are susceptible to outbreaks.

11 Predicted geographical distribution of the zoonotic niche for Lassa virus.
