1 Optical imaging to assess metabolic changes in kidney transplant animal model
Students: Farnaz H.Foomani, Soudeh Mostaghimi, Shima Mehrvar Advisor: Dr. Mahsa Ranji Collaborator: Dr. Allen Cowley, Department of Physiology, MCW 04/29/2019

2 Motivation Kidney transplant can be modeled by Uninephrectomy (UNX).
Unx would result to the nephron hypertrophy. Nephron hypertrophy contributes to structural and functional changes to the remaining kidney.

3 Experimental Protocol
Day 0 Day 3 No kidney extraction Both kidneys extraction Left kidney extraction Right kidney extraction (UNX)

4 3D Fluorescence Cryoimager
To detect autofluorescence signals of NADH and FAD To calculate redox state NADH/FAD as an index for oxidative stress

5 Result and Conclusion Volumetric Redox Ratio Lower redox ratio (blue color) is related to higher oxidative stress. This study helps to find effective mitochondrial-targeted clinical interventions. As a model for transplantation it can help to treat hypertrophied kidney .
