GREYSTONES UTD AFC Continuous Player Assessment and Trials
Club guidelines to player development and movement between squads

Player development records
A player’s development through the season should be recorded at least three times during the 10 month season: • At the end of month 2. This gives the player time to settle in to what may be a new squad, transition to a bigger pitch and the start to a new season. • During month 6. After recording what we would like to help the player improve on and working on it in training, we should be able to see some progression from the previous analysis. • End of season. After identifying and working on the points that needed improving throughout the season, we now have a full record of the player’s progression or lack of it, and this record will contribute to the decision on whether a player needs to move up, down or remain in the squad to help their development.

End of Season Trials When the season has ended for all squads at that age group and the player records have been updated, we will hold matches between the squads. The observations from these matches will also contribute to any decisions being made on player movement, with all managers and coaches invited to attend. There will be more than just one match to compensate for any player who could not attend, who is injured or has just had a bad day on the day of the match. A meeting between all managers, coaches, the Club’s Director of Football and Development Officer will then take place to finalise player movement.

Final Points Any player who has been requested or recommended to move to another squad to better their development, should be encouraged to do so by all managers and coaches. Any manager or coach found putting any pressure on a player or their parents to say no to the movement and stay in their squad will be asked to step down from their position with that squad. As pointed out in the Club Code of Ethics, a player signs for the Club and not any specific team within the Club and it is the Club’s decision on which team they should play to help their development. Any player or parent who does not want to move will be given the opportunity to explain their reasons to the Club and the final decision on this will be made by the Board.
