OBJECTIVES OF THE BMZ Assign greater importance to sanitation for households in projects Prioritize human right to water in conflicts over use Reserve 4 to 6 % of funds to support results-based M&E in projects Objective 1: Create access to sanitation and drinking water and ensure hygiene Raise its engagement for WRM from 10 to 20% of BMZ’s water sector funding to reduce water scarcity and flooding Tackle water scarcity by supporting recycling of treated wastewater, rainwater management and desalination Protect water resources via proper management of wastewater, solid waste and faces and support measures for regulation and investment. Promote sustainable protection of water quality and quantity via supporting IWRM in agricultural projects Objective 2: Promote Water Resource Security Support countries efforts with regard to water infrastructure in the context of adaptation to climate change Raise the importance of water infrastructures in the climate finance facilities portfolios Promote water as an issue in the context of adaptation to climate change in international processes Objective 3: Contribute to Climate Change mitigation and adaptation Broaden its engagement in transboundary water management for regional stability (especially in water scarce regions) Improve water security in regions from which refugees and migrants originate Mitigating the causes of displacement and supporting host communities in improving their water supply, sanitation and solid waste management Objective 4: Utilise water as a resource for peace and to tackle the causes of displacement
