COMMUNITY MODEL OF VIOLENCE CAUSATION
Four FUNNELS contributing to concentrated peer social context where violence is valued Sequential migration, sometimes resulting in alienation from family 2. Lack of understanding about role of school, lack of preparation, language barriers, resulting in alienation from school 3. Community alienated from social services, and internal fragmentation 4. Gang activity, recruitment, and social norms supporting violence

EVALUATION SAFER Latinos is a COMMUNITY intervention – no specific intervention cohort of individuals that can be followed 1. BASELINE and FOLLOWUP community surveys (random cluster sample by apartment building), measuring: mediators of violence as described in the model; attitudes to violence; self-reported involvement in violence and gangs 2, BASELINE and FOLLOWUP focus groups, assessing community perceptions of violence norms, available community support, other issues 3. Community and school VIOLENCE DATA
