Outline The goals of Next Generation Mobile Literature Review and Motivation Authentication and Mobility Management The Parameters Accomplished Work Conclusion and Future Work

Ubiquitous Converged Data Rate Support for Multiple Applications and Servic es The Goals of Next Generation Mobile

Wireless Lan (WLAN) Low cost Unlicensed free frequency brand High data rate up to 100 mbps Universal Mobile Telecommunications System(UMTS) standard of Third-Generation (3G) cellular systems providing wide coverage. universal roaming service. A Standard WLAN does not support: Security and Billing While UMTS does. The literature Review and Motivation

The Integration Open Coupling Loose Coupling Tight Coupling Very Tight Coupling The literature Review and Motivation (Cont)

Interworking Scenarios and features by 3GPP The literature Review and Motivation (Cont) ScenarioFeatures 1Common billing and Customer Care 2Scenario 1 + Common Authentication 3Scenario 2 + Access to 3G packet-switch based services 4Scenario 3 + Service Continuity 5Scenario 4 + Seamless service continuity 6Scenario 5 + Access 3G circuit-switch based services with seamless mobility

Loose Coupling The literature Review and Motivation (Cont)

Tight Coupling The literature Review and Motivation (Cont)

Motivation Better Service Combined network will support: very high data rates in the WLANs hotspots, high mobility and internet access availability through UMTS Increase the 3G cellular network capacity and profitability significantly. To identify an architecture that can provide better performance and a flexible interworking based on Internet applications The literature Review and Motivation (Cont)

Prospective research work may include how to reduce the http page and ftp file upload response time for loose coupling. Conclusion Future Work Both coupling have advantages depending on the application. For VoIP loose coupling with the G729A codec provides lower jitter and end to end delay. To implement tight coupling changes to the protocols used in WLAN are necessary. Loose coupling may be implemented more readily and provides simplicity and efficiency for 3G/WLAN integration.
