The New Jersey Good Samaritan Law is designed to protect individuals from any liability for damages who voluntarily attempt to give medical assistance to those in need. The law also allows people to report a possible drug overdose without fear of being arrested themselves. It encourages and protects bystanders, including doctors and paramedics, at an accident scene to render assistance to someone in need without fear of being sued if things go wrong

Your role as a first aid rescuer
Recognize that an emergency exists Make sure the scene is safe for you and the ill or injured person Call 9-1-1 Provide care until someone with more advanced training arrives and takes over

Asking to Give First Aid
Introduce yourself as a first aid provider before you touch the person Ask if you may help If the person agrees, give first aid If the person refuses, call and stay with them until help arrives If the person is confused or cannot answer, assume the person wants help Maintain the First Aid Kit
