2 To Be Discussed… Ripley: Then vs. Now-Transformation from the first Alien to Aliens Gender Roles in other characters The Dueling Females/Film Form

3 Alien: Part 2 After the box-office success of Ridley Scott’s Alien in 1979, a sequel was bound to follow. Aliens, the second installment of the series, was directed by James Cameron and was released in 1986. Picart states that rather than trying to top the striking visual effects of Ridley Scott’s film, Cameron decided to focus on his own strengths as a director -- heavier plotting, more concentration on characters, dialogue, and more action. Most importantly, he decides to focus primarily on Ripley and not so much on the crew of marines.
