Our Routes

1849 for Laura May 25-Joann found me and asked me if I could live in Sutters Fort with her and I said yes! June 21-Buisness is going good and I have some gold from the miners. Many miners are coming to my shop. Joann is coming to my shop about 3 times a week. I sell her apples, pears, carrots, and cabbages. July 7- I was robbed for all my gold ! I have noticed that people have become more greedy since the Gold Rush started. People would do anything to get their hands on that gold. July 28- My shop is going great! Supplies are high and people can afford the foods that they need. Now foods cost $0.50. People all over are coming to my shop.
7
September 4- More people are becoming rich but many are disappointed so they go back east to their old states. Now California is crowded with more than 35,000 people! Californias government now has more financial problems. This is how merchants sell their supplies in the Gold Rush
8
1849 for Joann May 24- I arrive in Sacramento, California. My trip was hard because of the blizzards. We could barely see anything. My trip took 3-5 months. May 25- I find Laura and ask her to live in Sutters Fort with me. She said, YES!! John A. Sutter Sutters Fort

1849 for Joann May 26- I ride in my wagon to Sacramento to buy supplies to mine for gold. Miners like me work 6 days a week, Monday- Saturday, and Sunday is a rest day from mining. When not working, miners play cards, read books, play music, and sing songs. June 26- I havent found any gold yet and I go to Lauras store 3 times a week.
10
I buy apples, carrots, pears, and cabbage. Food costs $0.50. June 27- I started a new day mining. Me and another miner are using a new tool called a cradle to pan for gold. It separates gold from dirt more quickly and more easily. July 6- I go to work mining for gold and suddenly, I see a shining yellow rock in the water! I pan it up and scream, GOLD! GOLD! I looked back in the water and see more shining, yellow rocks. I gather up the rocks and scream, Im RICH! Im RICH!
11
1850 for Joann January 26- I built a school for children with the gold I had. I also built many houses for people who need them.
12
1851 for Laura January 18- My shop is a success and now people are buying so many supplies from my shop. The Gold Rush isnt as popular so people arent becoming as greedy as they were before. February 22- I use some of the money from my shop to build food stores for people who cant build them thereselves. This is kind of what a shop is in the Gold Rush
13
Finance, Economy, and Government of California The economy of California changed because now the government and buissneses have more money to organize for the people. After the Gold Rush, California was just like all the other states with government, economy, finance, and a good population. As the Gold Rush I saw that Californias population grew more and more each week. People were becoming more diverse.* *diverse means to be more different
14
Affects On the Gold Rush and on California July 10, 1850- A lot of people came to California very quickly and used all the supplies, so now, later in the Gold Rush, entrepreneurs*,increase the prices of scarce items, which is called inflation. Entrepreneurs become wealthy. People became consumers because they had money and bought goods. Some towns that where mining camps just months ago, now have banks, food stores, and doctors. The population of San Francisco changed from 800 to 35,000 people. * A person who sets up a new business is a entrepreneur
