1 Physical science and the ISS
Canada has established itself as a vital partner in international efforts to establish a permanent human presence in space. CAISU Conference November 5, 2004

2 Why Are Physical Sciences Important?
Science is the furthering of knowledge of how the universe works. It's the first step in identifying direct applications. This knowledge can then be applied to other indirect applications.

3 Balance & Focus Reduced Gravity Environment
Fluids Combustion Materials Biotechnology These programs may include research into technologies furthering the exploration initiative.

4 Future Applications Materials Fluids Combustion Biotechnology
New high performance materials (stronger, lighter) –Aluminum, Iron… Fluids Fuel sloshing, heat transfer in EVA suits Combustion New forms of spacecraft propulsion Biotechnology Pharmaceuticals, Protein Structures, Crystalline Growth

5 Detrimental Effects of Eliminating The Program
Canadian scientists will go to other countries to conduct research. Canada will no longer be a scientific innovator. Canada would lose its international recognition of its research institutes. Example: "Canadian Light Source" in Saskatchewan Example: David Florida Laboratory

6 Rationale For ISS Money has already been spent to allow Canada access to the ISS. The ISS gives Canadian scientists the opportunity to perform repeatable experiments in a low-g environment.
