The International Baccalaureate® (IB) was founded in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1968 as a non-profit educational foundation. A group of talented, forward-thinking teachers at the International School of Geneva, with assistance from several other international schools, created the IB Diploma Programme. What started life as a single program for internationally mobile students preparing for university has today grown into three programs for students aged 3 to 19.

11 The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP)
The IB Middle Years Programme, for students aged 11 to 16, provides a framework of academic challenge that encourages students to embrace and understand the connections between traditional subjects and the real world, and become critical and reflective thinkers.

13 MYP & AP Our 9th grade IB hopefuls are currently taking AP Human Geography. Our other AP offerings include Psychology and European History.

14 The MYP Personal Project
By the end of the 10th grade students will complete their MYP Personal Projects, which allows them to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have developed. The students will do the research portion during the 9th grade and create and present the project during the 10th grade. This project allows the student to research what he/she is truly passionate about and has three components: The project (tryptich, documentary, original work or art, research paper) Process journal Report You can see some of the past Personal Project topics on the next slide.

Contents: What does the Diploma Programme curriculum contain? The curriculum contains six subject groups and a core of three parts. Students study concurrently: three subjects at higher level (240 hours each). three subjects at standard level (150 hours each). all three parts of the core. The IB Learner Profile and the core are central to the philosophy of the Diploma Programme.

30 IB Students Graduate from College at Higher Rates
A 2011 study of IB students’ experiences after high school found that IB students graduated from college at higher rates, with 81% of IB students graduating within 6 years of enrolling full-time at a 4- year institution, compared to the national average of 57%. In the 2011 SRI International study of the post-secondary outcomes for nearly 25,000 Diploma alumni, researchers found that at institutions with high IB enrollments, graduation rates for IB students were generally higher than the institutional average. Overall, 81% of IB students graduated within 6 years of enrolling full-time at a 4-year institution, compared to the national average of 57%.
