Date: Tuesday, 09 July 2019 Title: Lesson 1: Management VS scientific data Learning Objective: Research and consolidate all ideas of how different types of data are stored. Success criteria Pass (3): Design a scientific laboratory, identifying its individual key features Merit (3): Justify key features in the non-specialist and specialist laboratory. Distinction (2): Analyse why good laboratory design is important for efficiency, effectiveness and safety

4 Seminar research task As a group you are going to create either an A3 poster OR a powerpoint presentation. You will be given either management data or scientific data to research in certain groups. By the end of the lesson you should have conducted enough research to be able to create a suitable resource so that you can teach another group your learning. EVERYONE in your group has a role and EVERYONE must be involved in the delivery of your work. For each of the following describe where and how the information should be stored, how often it would be accessed and the reason for keeping it. Management Data Employee information Work schedules Staff training records Standard operating procedures Servicing dates and contracts Stock records Waste disposal records Health and safety checks Scientific Data COSHH records Scientific data Scientific apparatus records Quality assurance records Laboratory test data Sample throughout and management Group roles A) Leader and time keeper: ensures all group members are working on their task. Supports others in their role I.E does a little research, helps find quotes AND helps design the poster/presentation. Keeps everyone focused by providing suitable time limits. B) Lead researcher : responsible for locating suitable websites with information C) Secondary researcher: support lead researcher and record all useful quotes/parts of information D) Scribe/presentation designer: designs the presentation and content, liaises with secondary researcher
