Phase Behavior of Binary (Polymer-Supramolecular Polymer) Blends
Mitchell Anthamatten, University of Rochester, Department of Chemical Engineering Theory A free energy model was developed to predict the upper-critical solution temperature phase behavior of polymer blends containing end-groups capable of reversible association. A matrix of twelve different self-complementary blends, considered by the model, is shown to the right. Hetero-complementary blends were studied as well. Experiment Atom-transfer radical polymerization followed and atom-transfer radical coupling techniques were applied to synthesize well-defined polystyrenes. Mono and telechelic polymers containing ureidopyrimidinone groups are used to study how reversible end-group association affects melt and solution phase behavior..
