Important Vocabulary Primate City: a city that serves as a country’s major port, economic center, and often its capital. Ex: Bangkok, Thailand. Maritime: meaning seafaring. Ex: early empires. Sphere of Influence: agreed-upon areas of control. Ex: European Powers.
