MICROFLUIDIC DEVICE FOR SPERM SELECTION HAMILTON DE MARTIN; MARCELLO ANTÔNIO SIGNORELLI COCUZZA; JOSÉ MARIA SOARES JUNIOR; MIGUEL SROUGI; EDMUND CHADA BARACAT. INTRODUCTION Assisted reproduction is a method that has long been widespread in medicine. However, the currently available techniques for sperm selection still have limitations. Thus, based on the tendency of spermatozoa to swim against a current of liquid, the present invention seeks to select those with higher motility by increasing the relative number of motile, morphologically normal and / or genetically normal gametes more fitted to the intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) technique. Moreover, the invention employs processes and materials already available on the market, using low cost materials. APPLICATION AND TARGET MARKET This technology suits as a support tool in the medical sector in the area of Health and Care (Human and Animal), aiming to improve processes of human and animal assisted reproduction. Images - Process overview. The continuous arrows show the system’s countercurrent mechanism and the dashed arrows show the direction of spermatozoon’s migration. DEVELOPMENT STAGE Area: Health and Care (Human and Animals); 0064/2018 Medicine School - USP Patent protected under the no. BR São Paulo Pole
