Year 6 Curriculum Map – Summer Term 2 Extended Curriculum & Transition to Secondary School
English Art & Design Computing As readers, we are reading non-fiction texts based on Plastic Pollution and its effect on our oceans. Our reading will form the basis of our class research into the topic and inform the writing that we will complete. As writers, we will be building up writing toolkits to write a discussion text based on the use of single-use plastics in our society today. We will be using debate and research to formulate arguments for both sides. As artists, we will use a wide range of artistic techniques, including digital art. As designers, we will design and create a case for a mobile phone. As computer users, we will be using technology to advance our knowledge of coding including using ‘if’ statements and variables. We will design our own programmes using 2Code. Geography As geographers we will be studying rivers and the water cycle. We will use maps to locate world rivers and learn about the key features of them. RE In RE, we will look at whether ‘Charity can change the world?’. As part of this we will look at how different religions contribute and run charities and what they contribute to society. Maths As mathematicians, we will be applying our skills to cross curricular topics. Our main focus will be on statistics – using different ways to present data which we will gather as part of our different theme weeks. We will also be consolidating written methods for calculations and using them in the context of mathematical problem solving, number games and puzzles.
