3. Examples
The students in the class come from many countries. One of the students is from Mexico. Another student is from Iraq. Another is from Japan. Other students are from Brazil.
I have three books. One is mine. Another is Sheila’s. The other is yours.

4. When you are talking about one item from a group or list, not the LAST one, just a random one.
Meaning: “one more in addition to or different from the ones already mentioned.”
Use it similar to A or AN
There are three letters on the table, but I expect another (one) (letter) to come Monday.
One of my friends lives in Georgia. Another (one) (friend) lives in Utah.

5. It can also mean “an additional” or “more” when used with expressions of time, money, and distance
I will be here for another three years.
I will be here for three more years.

Other is used as an adjective

7. How to use the other & the others
Meaning: the last ones you’re talking about from a group or list
We use THE because the speaker and the listener know which ones are being talked about—the only ones left
You will get two grades this semester. One is for homework. The other is for tests.
The other people in my group didn’t do any work.
I invited 20 people. Only 12 are here. Did you see the others coming?

8. Other things to know with OTHER
Every other= yes for one, no for the next one, yes for the next one, no for the next one, etc.
We have class every other Friday
The other day=a few days ago
I rode a bus the other day.
The other day, I talked to my grandma.
