2 Accreditation for those that want it”
“Education for All; Accreditation for those that want it” Education Stage 2 > Umpire 2 Accreditation (U2A) Education Stage 3 > Umpire 3 Accreditation (U3A) Why Education for All – You may ask? That is one of the main conditions placed on organisations like ECB to receive funding from Sport England Emphasis the U1A & U2A from last year will be re-designated U2A & U3A and get new certificates.

3 The outline of the new system
Accreditation is only for those who want competency tested Key skills & knowledge identified Based on candidate self assessment working with a mentor Completion of the ECB Stage 2 or 3 On Line Exam Candidate completes a match notebook – does not form part of evidence Mentor will supply written statement of support to CDO CDO / RDO determines what evidence is required for assessment No Professional Discussions! Note the role of the CDO has become more important.

7 Accreditation Accreditation is only for those who want competency tested What is it? Check for Competency Can, typically be, a one or two year programme What it is NOT? A “ticket” to any particular level of the game That is governed by your performance Must have current membership of ECB ACO with a DBS. Even better to get the extra benefits that go with a BCOA membership

Ability to officiate effectively in local league (up to Tier 4) and junior environments. UMPIRE 3 ACCREDITATION (U3A) Consolidation Stage As per U2A PLUS the ability to officiate effectively in at least feeder leagues or equivalent The majority of your umpiring needs to be in Tier 2 or in the very top of Tier 3 (unless WE ask for you to be appointed at another level / match with a mentee) Could be named as a more meaningful description

The detail Assessment (both Levels) Each participant is given a mentor All umpires complete a match notebook for each match - supplied by ECBACO. When the assigned mentor believes the umpire is ready, (s)he refers her/him to the CDO for boundary assessment. CDO may request additional observations if thought necessary.

12 The Match Notebook / Diary

13 The Role of the Mentor To provide support and guidance for those being mentored (the participant) by acting as a Role Model, provide guidance and motivation Mentor and participant should meet as early as possible to set the parameters of the relationship (e.g. confidentiality, meeting timescales, contact details, reporting strategy, feedback/review meetings etc) Based on the participant’s aspirations, the mentor should agree short, medium and long-term objectives. ©2019 Berkshire Cricket Officials Association ww.berkscoa.co.uk

14 The Role of the Mentor The mentor should give guidance on how to complete the match notebook. The mentor should stand with the participant at the beginning of the process and again when he / she feels they may be ready to be observed. ©2019 Berkshire Cricket Officials Association ww.berkscoa.co.uk

15 The detail Evidence The participant must keep a folder containing the evidence. For U2A the CDO determines what evidence he / she requires to allow assessment. For U3A the RDO determines what evidence he / she requires to allow assessment. The ECB supplied match notebook will not form part of the evidence ECB ACO Stage 2 and 3 ON LINE exam. Same questions as in the MCC Basic & Intermediate but selected to suit the level ie One Day laws plus some for basic timed cricket

Not only have they umpires the games really well but they have also been very pleasant company and the players have enjoyed having them around.
