Opening title sequence analysis
Brick. Opening title sequence analysis By Elise James

Lighting The lighting used in the opening title sequence changes through out the scene and starts off a blue/grey colour in the tunnel. They have done this so that it makes the audience a little bit sad for whats happening. At the top of the tunnel there is a ray of a golden light which could subconsciously represent something like haven to the viewer. Through out the rest of the opening title sequence there is a lighter blue/grey to show the audience that something bad is going to happen. During the phonebox scene it is quite lightly used but makes the weather look cold.

Props and costume The props used show a lot about the characters during this scene. The skirt, high heels and bracelets that the dead person is wearing shows the audience that she is a female and by using feminine stuff the make her out to look weak. The note tells the audience the place he will meet someone and also makes the girl who gave him the note hidden as we still haven't seen her face yet. The phone also keeps her hidden as you just hear her voice. The cigarette shows the audience and character where the girl is but also shows them that something bad will happen.

Locations There are three different locations during this opening title sequence and all of them are very different. The first location is the tunnel which shows the audience straight away a death that will happen. They have done this so that the audience wants to watch more and find out how she got there. The scene then moves swiftly to a school environment where there is the note. This show the characters ages to the audience as they seem to be in high school. The phone box is the next location which is important as it hides the identity of some character using the phone box. It also starts making the audience think of what is going on and draws them in even more.

Sound The sound during the beginning of the sequence is non digetic as they uses an eerie music which also makes the scene seem sadder to the audience. There is also a school bell rung which tells the audience a rough age of the characters that have just been shown. There also the loud sound of the telephone box ringing. One of the main sound in the opening title sequence is dialouge as it gives to clue and little bits of information about the characters.
