Spatial resolution as good as 10 nm has been achieved. Cyclic voltammogram of ferrocene thiol SAM. Upon oxidation, the SAM becomes positively charged. However, the ferrocenium groups undergo partial decomposition within 10 min. Reversible boronate formation between 1 and substituted catechols in MeOH. Upon binding the fluorescence intensity of 1 is reduced. The reversible oxidation of catechol to o-benzoquinone is also shown.
