1 The Trivialization Of God
Romans 1:22-23

2 Move To A God Of My Choice
God is trivialized when we convert Him to a manageable Deity In order to be “manageable” God must be reduced to man’s level—or to a lower level (Rom. 1:23; Isa. 40:18-25) Corresponds to the popular “choose the church of your choice” Cf. 1 Corinthians 8:5-6

3 Move To A God Of My Choice
God is adapted to fit my “felt needs” God of my cause God is perceived to be on my side on some issue de jour (e. g., social injustice, environment, civil rights, homelessness, etc.) We are to submit to God, not He to us (James 4:7) God of my understanding Preface remarks with “I think God will…” Rather “Thus saith the Lord…” (Titus 2:1)

4 Move To A God Of My Choice
God of my experience What I have seen, heard or felt is of prime importance What the Scriptures say comes after that God of my comfort More and more are seeking for some personal experience and then defining that as prime importance Faith has always been the prime importance (Rom. 10:17; Heb. 11:6)

5 Move To A God Of My Choice
God of my success The health and wealth gospel has really found its stride today—Ken and Gloria Copeland, Joel Osteen, Rick Warren, et al. “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?” (Mk. 8:36)

6 Move To A God Of My Choice
All of this overlooks the fact that God is not to be adapted to us, but that we are to be adapted to God (Rom. 12:1-2) The God who is adapted to us is trivialized to the place where He is not even on a level with man, actually reduced to something less! By adapting ourselves to God, we give Him His honor and properly show our reverence and awe (Heb. 12:28)
