Introduction to Domains & Kingdoms
Three Domains: Bacteria- made up of Kingdom Eubacteria Archaea – made up of Kingdom Archaebacteria Eukarya – made up of Kingdoms Protista, Fungi, Plantae, Animalia
2
Comparison of the 3 Domains:
UNICELLULAR Uni/Multicellular 1. EUBACTERIA UNICELLULAR (introns) 1. ARCHAEABACTERIA
3
Six Kingdoms: Grouped according to cell type, cell wall, body type, and nutrition. Eubacteria Archaebacteria Protista Fungi Plantae Animalia
4
Six Kingdoms Unicellular
5
Domains & Kingdoms Eubacteria Archaeabacteria
6
Difference between Eubacteria and Archaebacteria?
Eubacteria – has cell wall made of peptidoglycan; common bacteria ex: Streptococcus, Escherichia coli Archaebacteria – has cell wall with no peptidoglycan; known as extremophiles
7
Examples of Archaebacteria:
Methanogens – produce methane gas Extremeophiles – can live in extreme conditions ex: Thermophiles – very hot places Halophiles – very salty
8
Extremeophiles: Methanogens Halophiles Thermophiles *found in
pond water Absorptive Heterotroph
