Project 4: IoT-enabled peer-to-peer energy trading REU Students: Eric Elliott & Nicholas Shanklin
Graduate mentor(s): Safa Bacanli Faculty mentor(s): Qun Zhou & Damla Turgut Week 1: May 27th, 2019— May 31st, 2019 Accomplishments: Met with mentors to learn about the project as well as discuss research, establishing a foundation for the project Examined existing literature related to P2P energy trading, began to identify common problems and current systems in the field Explored different options for power grid simulation software, and successfully installed and experimented with the Mosaik API for Python Problem & Solutions Current power grid simulation software may not be able to effectively model a P2P energy network, and adapting existing systems to accommodate this could prove challenging The decision to use simulation software could be problematic as well — might be better to experiment on real-time data rather than create a simulation Plans for next week: Continue to examine current literature on P2P trading, honing in on both effective and ineffective practices in the field Focus on learning the Mosaik API, and plan to continue exploring other options for simulation software in the event that the current API is ineffective for the project Establish a timeline for the project as a whole, setting clear goals for the progression of the project
