TENDON APONEUROSIS FASCIAE SYNOVIAL BURSA

TENDON A flexible but inelastic cord of strong fibrous collagen tissue attaching a muscle to a bone.

Roles of Tendons Attach muscle to bone Transmit tensile loads Position of muscle relative to joint

Properties of tendon u can sustain high tensile loads u flexible to allow changes in direction of muscle pull

u Amount of force produced by muscle u Stress comparison between tendon and muscle u Loading Rates Additional Factors Important in Tendon Injury

APONEUROSIS A sheet of pearly white fibrous tissue that takes the place of a tendon in flat muscles having a wide area of attachment.

The abdominal aponeurosis encloses the long muscles located in the stomach area, from the bottom of the chest to the top of the pubic area.

These muscles are called the rectus abdominis muscles.... Aponeuroses are thin tissues, and the abdominal aponeurosis is a great example.

Fasciae A fascia ( from Latin: "band") is a band or sheet of connective tissue, primarily collagen, beneath the skin that attaches, stabilizes, encloses, and separates muscles and other internal organs.

There are three main types of fascia: Superficial Fascia, which is mostly associated with the skin.

Deep Fascia, which is mostly associated with the muscles, bones, nerves and blood vessels; and. Visceral (or Sub serous) Fascia, which is mostly associated with the internal organs.

A synovial bursa is a small fluid-filled sac lined by synovial membrane with an inner capillary layer of viscous synovial fluid (similar in consistency to that of a raw egg white).

It provides a cushion between bones and tendons and/or muscles around a joint.

THREE TYPES OF BURSAE. Most of the bursae in the body are synovial: thin-walled sacs interposed between bones, muscles, and tendons.

The lining of a bursa contains a capillary layer of synovial fluid, which provides two lubricated surfaces that enable freedom of movement.
