The Barbell Factory Process Improvement in Action!
10 Volunteers Leave and go to another room Need one person to volunteer as the timekeeper Everyone else will serve as process observers
6
Debrief What were the problems in this process that made it difficult (or impossible) to produce 3 barbells in 3 minutes? What could be changed that would enable the group to make the allotted number of barbells in the set time limit? What was the role of the manager in this process when thinking about school? Did the manager or the inspector help the workers to be more successful in creating barbells? Who are the internal customers of the process? Did the workers understand or know what the other workers were doing in the system? What was wrong with the system?
7
Round 2 Debrief Workers, how did you feel?
Process Observers, what did you see…..hear? Did the leader’s role change in the new system? How? What changes were made in the process? What might we do with the extra time we saved with the new system? Would offering incentives like merit pay, a $5 per hour raise and other forms of bribery have helped the workers successfully make barbells in round one? If the physical plant were enlarged, could the workers have been more productive? If I had fired all the workers and hired new ones with better attitudes, could they have been productive in round one? If extra workers had been hired, could you have produced barbells? What about extending the day?

This activity demonstrates the importance of:
A clearly defined and shared vision Empowered workers The continuous improvement cycle Looking at the process as the problem and not blaming other issues

EdReflect – End of the Year Process
Start with Org Amin Responsibilities Org Admin first needs to assign each learner to an end of year evaluator and to a classification. These two steps are below: Step 1: Assigning Learners’ Classifications - Tip: Filter by rubric to quickly assign similar learners to their classification. Building principals should share the list of learners in a Career Summative and Non- Career Summative year with the EdReflect administrator at the district, who will then make EOY classification and evaluator assignments in EdReflect. Learners who are in a career summative year (and therefore need to have an EOY Worksheet where a final rating is calculated) should be assigned to either the Career Summative Teacher or Career Summative Administrator classification depending on their rubric. Note that all teachers not in a career summative year should be assigned the No End of Year Evaluation Needed Classification. Step 2: Assigning EOY Evaluators to Learners - Tip: Use the "Auto-Assign Solo Observers" button to automatically pair learners who have a single observer. An end of year evaluator is the one observer who will be responsible for completing the EOY Worksheet and generating a final rating for the learner. Note: Once the end of year evaluator and end of year classifications are assigned, the learner will appear on the observer’s End of Year Tasks tab.
11
Principals will not be able to see the End of Year Task tab until the Org.
Admin. has set up the system from their end.
13
Dashboard – click End of Year Tasks
14
EOY Worksheet Start with Creating a snapshot
15
Aggregated E&R Page Here is a live look at the last snapshot that was taken and ratings if the teacher had one. Now you need to update these ratings based on this year’s performance. Click into the box where you want to move them. (Blue bubble with your initials. These ratings will calculate for the final ratings on the worksheet. Small boxes are ratings from observations throughout the year.
16
Creating and naming the snapshot
1 -Once rating is complete, click Create snapshot – name window will open. 3 –Click create snapshot again 4 –now attach to EOY worksheet 2 -Name snapshot – be specific
17
Go back to dashboard, click on EOY
task again, then click on teacher name, We just created one, now we attach an existing one. Next select the one you just named ex. “Mr. Teacher EOY 2018”
18
and get the big blue bubble before creating your snapshot.
Once you click attach, like magic a final rating will appear with the ratings for each Domain and one overall rating. You can hover over the domain to see How each component was scored. If ratings did not fill in completely, then you did not rate each component and get the big blue bubble before creating your snapshot.
19
If you want to see the whole snapshot then…
Open in new tab Data from… Side note – there is not a place on the EOY worksheet to comments
20
Will open in a new tab if you want to view it or print it.
21
To make updates, change a rating, or start over with a new one
You will have to create a new Snapshot and attach it to the EOY worksheet Click and follow same steps as before, remember To give it a new very specific name so that you Can locate the one you want to attach.
22
Teacher will not be able to see the EOY worksheet until you share it with them.
Now visible to the Teacher
23
If you are a read-only observer or have that learner on your dashboard and want to see the final rating then Go to your dashboard Click on their picture Scroll down to EOY Evaluation Can also access prior year EOY Worksheets
24
Only do this process on Career Summative Educators
Teachers and administrators This is the rating that ADE will pull in June
26
Now to complete the TESS PGP Update for both the Career Summative
and the Non-career summative educators. Process is the same for LEADS Calendar will popup, schedule by day and time.
27
Process for Non-career summative
1 - Review Goals 2 - Learner completes a reflection (as soon as learner starts to type you will see) 3 - TESS Review – location for your notes – comments visible to other observers 4 – Can create a snapshot with some or all components rated, but this will not calculate a final rating or be pulled by ADE
28
Once marked complete you
cannot un-archived it again Teacher can make it un-active or just edit it and continue working on it.
29
Click here and it will take you to the A E&R
Teacher view of Learner Reflection Click here and it will take you to the A E&R page. Same process of creating snapshot and attaching.
