15 Grant Searching Tips Use keywords: Make a list of general and specific keywords that apply to your topic; don’t forget geographic location and constituency. Funding history: Search for funding that’s been awarded and look for the keywords used. Look up grant cycles, focus areas, and giving interests. Search by state: For specialties not federally funded, grants may be offered at local level. Learn about the active funding opportunities in Florida and South Florida. Apply outside the box: In addition to the National funding agencies consider applying to less obvious organizations interested in some aspect of your research.

16 Grant Searching Tips Grant forecast: Search for grant forecasts to get a head start on applying for a grant on Grants.gov. Program officers: Contact program officers if you need to clarification or if you need guidance on whether or not your project is a good fit for the funding agency or program. Be alert: Once you found grants matching your criteria, sign up for personalized funding alert options wherever they’re offered.
