WALT: Understand how to measure Mass. Warm-up : Sun, Earth, Moon diagram. CW: Using an Electronic Scale

2 Warm-up 1. Draw a diagram in your notebook that shows the alignment of the planets Sun, Earth and Moon when this picture was taken.

4 Mass Mass – A measure of an objects resistance to motion. Physical Body – Anything with Mass. Resistance to Acceleration – The harder you need to push or pull something to move it, the more mass it has. Force – A push or pull on an object.

5 Layout of a typical Scale
On/Off Switch – Turns the scale on and usually includes the “Tare or Zero” function. Units – Sets the scale to either read in grams or usually ounces. Center the specimen – Always take the mass of an object as close to the center of the scale as possible.
